Something Must Change
Something Must Change

Someone hurt you.

You replay the moment over and over.

How could this happen?

Why would someone treat me this way?

You want to let it go, but you can’t.

Each time you revisit it, another wave of anger, sadness, confusion, or hurt washes over you, carrying you farther away from the person you know yourself to be.

Something deep within you begins calling.

It's quiet at first—almost a whisper—but it never leaves.

Your Soul is calling you.

At first, your emotions hold you where you are. The pain feels too real. The questions too important. But as time passes, the call becomes stronger.

Eventually, you grow weary.

Weary of carrying the hurt. Weary of the loneliness. Weary of feeling disconnected from yourself.

One day, after sitting quietly in meditation, a gentle thought rises from within.

“It’s time to forgive and let go.”

You can feel this is true.

But why is forgiveness so important?

Perhaps this analogy can help.

Imagine you are standing alone in a vast valley.

The sun beats down relentlessly. It is forty degrees outside, and you have been standing out there for a long time.

You replay the experience over and over.

You think about everything that happened.

Everything that was said.

Everything that should have been different.

You search for answers.

Why did they do this?

What could I have done differently?

The heat becomes almost unbearable.

Oddly enough, there is a strange comfort in remaining there. Part of you feels justified in your pain. There is nothing wrong with acknowledging how deeply you’ve been hurt.

But slowly, you begin to realize something.

You’re tired.

Not because of what happened…

But because you’ve been carrying it.

Then your Soul gently whispers once more.

“You want to feel like yourself again.”

You suddenly realize that what you miss most isn’t the relationship, the explanation, or even justice.

You miss your connection to yourself.

Just a few steps ahead, you notice something you hadn’t seen before.

A crystal-clear river which winds peacefully through the valley.

Beside it stands the most majestic tree you’ve ever seen.

Its broad canopy stretches wide, offering cool, deep shade from the relentless heat.

The water looks refreshing and calls you.

The shade looks inviting.

You can almost feel the relief waiting there.

As sweat trickles down your brow, another thought arises.

“But I still need to figure this out.”

“I need to understand why this happened.”

Then your Soul asks another gentle question.

“Do you?”

You pause.

For the first time, you realize that understanding may never come.

And perhaps it isn’t what you’re truly searching for.

What you’re really seeking…

is relief.

You cannot change another person’s choices.

But you can choose your own.

You can choose the thoughts that bring you closer to peace.

Your Soul never stops calling you home.

Every thought that brings relief…

Every deep breath…

Every moment of compassion…

Every willingness to soften…

becomes another step toward the shade.

With every emotion you release, you move farther away from the scorching heat of resentment and closer to the cool shelter waiting beneath the tree.

Finally…

You let go.

Maybe I Don't Have To Carry This Anymore.
Maybe I Don't Have To Carry This Anymore.

You step beneath its branches.

Immediately, everything changes.

The heat no longer consumes you.

Your breathing slows.

Your body softens.

Your nervous system begins to settle.

For the first time in what feels like forever…

you feel safe.

You rest there for a while, allowing yourself to simply be.

When you’re ready, you walk to the river.

You sit quietly on its bank.

You drink the cool, fresh water.

You slip your bare feet into the gentle current.

The water feels life-giving.

As it flows, something else begins to flow within you.

Hope.

Appreciation.

Compassion.

Love.

Then a smile appears.

Ahhh… it feels so good to be me again.

I Finally Feel Like Myself Again
I Finally Feel Like Myself Again

The loneliness lifts and connection returns.

After several long, slow, deep breaths, you realize something beautiful.

The feeling that all is well again.

Not because the past changed.

Not because someone apologized.

Not because you finally understood why it happened.

But because you no longer need to carry it.

After some time, that person comes to mind again.

Only this time…

instead of anger…

there is compassion.

You realize you never needed to understand why they hurt you.

You only needed to release what you were carrying.

That is forgiveness.

Forgiveness isn’t something you do for another person.

It is something you allow yourself to receive.

It is the moment you choose to stop standing in the heat.

It is the moment you walk toward hope.

It is the moment you return to your true self.

Because the greatest gift forgiveness offers isn’t that it changes what happened.

It’s that it sets you free.

Free from the burden of replaying the past.

Free from the weight of hurt, confusion, resentment, and fear.

Free to remember who you have always been beneath it all.

Perhaps forgiveness has never been about them.

Perhaps it has always been about coming home to yourself.

And maybe… just maybe...

that is where you discover true freedom.
